Getting Passports Renewals And Making Changes Effortlessly   January 27th, 2012

For many people, U.S. online passport renewals by mail is the most convenient. You won’t have to make a personal appearance so traveling a great distance won’t be necessary. To do so by mail, however, requires that certain conditions be met.

Conditions

There are a few conditions to be met if you want to mail your request. You must be able to submit your current passport with your application and it must be undamaged. It is also required that you obtained it within the past fifteen years, and you were at least sixteen years old at the time. If you have had a name change, submit the proof with your application.

Form DS-82

If all qualifications mentioned above are met and you are able to use the accompanying form by mail, you will receive the new passport using this convenient method. Even if you have never had a passport before, you can still get one without a personal appearance in some situations.

Expedited Service

You can receive help if you need an expedited copy within a couple of weeks. If you are travelling very soon, you may need this expedited copy, even with the extra fee that is involved. Also, if you need a foreign visa in four weeks, you will have to pay the extra fee. You should be sure to write the word “expedite” across the front of you envelope. You will also have extra overnight charges for both sending and receiving.

Appearance Required

If you need your visa in less than four weeks or are leaving on your trip in less that fourteen days, you will have to make a personal application and pay a higher charge to get it. You should be sure to have all documentation at the beginning for this service and must go to a passport office to apply.

Name Change

For a name change due to a court order or marriage, you must officially change it on your document. To do this, you will need a copy of the court order or marriage license, whichever applies. You will need your original passport, a certified copy or original of the name change documentation, the appropriate form and a color picture. There is no charge for this service. The same thing goes for a kids U.S. passport fast.

Errors

If you have errors that need to be corrected, you can do this any time. Using the correct form, you do not need to pay a fee. These errors are things like typos and date of birth. Just send the form and get the error fixed for free.

Mailing

There are a number of circumstances in which you may need to make corrections or additions. Because all documents must be in an undamaged condition, it is advised to send them in an envelope large enough to prevent folding and to use a strong envelope for greater protection.
