Hautelinks: Week of 5/31/12   June 1st, 2012

Hautelinks - your weekly source for the best of the web

* The 10 Most Stylish Cartoon Bands of All Time, from FashionIndie. Ahh, The Beets! <3

* Travel and Leisure magazine did a survey and ranked the best and worst-dressed cities in America. (Not surprisingly, NYC is number one under “best.”) Where does your hometown rank?

* The Devil Wears Prada Sequel is Slated for April 2013. Sequels to popular films? Groundbreaking.

* Chictopia lists 5 Up-And-Coming Fashion Designers You Need to Know.

* FabSugar did a great feature on our latest fashion girl crush, Ashley Madekwe from the TV show Revenge.

* Refinery 29 lists 30 Summer Wardrobe Must-Haves, with cheaper versions of designer items.

* Also from R29, Has Street Style Jumped The Shark? Can’t say I really disagree with this… what do you guys think?

* This Couple Has Worn Matching Outfits for 35 Years, via The Gloss. That’s commitment right there.

* We also loved The Gloss’s feature on fashion-forward kids – adorbs.

* From Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow’s hairstylist shows you how to do your own hair like a pro. Love the beach waves tutorial, and the blowout tips are fab.

* Speaking of hair, how adorable is this DIY hair bow, from HelloGiggles? So cool that they did it with curly hair too.

* Recipe of the day: Easy Egg-Free Cookie Dough Bites. These look incredible!

* We love these DIY chain friendship bracelets from Stripes + Sequins.

* OK, I know this is kind of mean but it made me laugh SO hard: 20 Guys Trying to Bang a Total Psycho on OKCupid.

* If you liked that post, see also: Marla on OKCupid, Part 2. “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a microwave, waiting for my hot pocket to be done.”

* Although the movie doesn’t come out until Xmas, you can shop the looks from The Great Gatsby trailer right now!

* For those 21-plus, these Avengers cocktail recipes look good, and have funny instructions to boot.

* Photographer destroys a 0k Birkin bag for the sake of ‘art’. What do you think? Are the photos artsy and irreverent or an arrogant show of excess? (I’m leaning towards the latter…)

* Another crazy news item: Woman Sues Olay for False Advertising of Anti-Aging Products. On one hand, false advertising is a definite problem in the beauty industry. That said, we’re not sure suing these companies is the best way to change it…

* So cool: The Little Black Dress Goes High-Tech.

* FabSugar has a great roundup of the best celebrity looks at the Cannes Film Festival. Like the Oscars, the Cannes red carpet never disappoints.

* From Gawker, it looks like “call me maybe” is turning into an actual thing….

* 5 Things to Try This Weekend, from The Glitter Guide. Cute!

* File this under things I never knew existed: Goth Day at Disneyland, via Vice. Kind of amazing.

* This made my heart ache for the interviewee. Such an important message for every girl: If “Beauty is Pain,” is it Worth This Much Suffering?

* If you have a half hour or so to kill, this blog post on the current state of the music industry and how musicians are making money is fascinating, if a bit depressing.

* Love this: Stephen King’s 20 Tips for Becoming a Frighteningly Good Writer. (Sidenote: Read “On Writing” if you haven’t already!)
