Softball players from Plano East, Hebron, Forney, Ennis and Celina named high school All-Americans   July 7th, 2012

Plano East senior pitcher Holly Kern and Hebron senior pitcher Heather Stearns were named first-team high school All-Americans in softball by MaxPreps. Forney junior shortstop Brooke McCarroll, Ennis junior catcher Riley Fira and Celina senior shortstop Shelby Carter were named to the second team.

Kern, a Texas signee, was SportsDay’s player of the year this season. She was 33-4 and hit .365 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs to lead Plano East to the Class 5A state semifinals.

Stearns, a Baylor signee, was SportsDay’s pitcher of the year and was named the Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year. She was 18-9 with a 1.29 ERA and hit .413 with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs as Hebron reached the 5A Region I final before losing to Plano East.

McCarroll, who has committed to UT-San Antonio, was SportsDay’s offensive player of the year. She hit .392 with 52 RBIs and an area-leading 16 home runs as Forney made it to the 4A state semifinals.

Fira, who has committed to UT-Arlington, hit .482 with 15 home runs and an area-best 70 RBIs for 4A Region II finalist Ennis. She was a first-team all-area selection.

Carter, a Midwestern State signee, was a first-team all-area pick and was named the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s 3A-2A-1A state player of the year. She hit .470 with six home runs and 45 RBIs.
