Former Flower Mound Marcus quarterback/receiver Deion Sanders Jr. is now at SMU. Although he was a solid player for the Marauders, he wasn’t a big-time recruit. But he has some big time, or at least interesting, dorm decor.

West Mesquite soccer player Isai Velasquez scores 100th career goal March 20th, 2013
Mesquite ISD athletic director Steve Bragg said in an email that West Mesquite senior Isai Velasquez scored his 100th career goal last week. There has never been an MISD soccer player score 100 career goals in varsity games.

Former Irving MacArthur and Wyoming defensive end Patrick Chukwurah called it “a blessing.”

UF commit Kelvin Taylor is named player of the year, 19 years after his famous father, retired NFL RB Fred Taylor, won the same award.
Prestonwood’s Mike Mitchell left off list as national player of the year candidates whittled to six November 28th, 2012
Two weeks ago, Prestonwood linebacker Mike Mitchell was named one of 16 finalists for the Army National Player of the Year. He was the only Texan to make the initial list.
Today, that list was whittled to six. Mitchell didn’t make it.

St. Mary’s forfeits wins for using ineligible player October 17th, 2012
The good news keeps coming for some of Broward County’s top girls lacrosse players.
Cardinal Gibbons’ Maylis Broderick recently made school signing when she became the program’s first Division I signee after signing with Stetson.
Broderick was the Chiefs’ leading scorer this season with 73 goals and 12 assists. She finished her senior year with 195 career goals and according to Chiefs coach Claire Kelly, Broderick was also recruited by St. Mary’s College and Greensboro University.
Kelvin Taylor named national player of the week November 23rd, 2011
He’s only a junior, but Florida’s all-time leading rusher, Glades Day running back Kelvin Taylor’s trophy case is dangerously close to needed an expansion. This week, Taylor was named the U.S. Army All-American Player of the Week.
Taylor’s 388-yard, six-touchdown performance against South Fork earned him the honor of being the named the national player. Taylor broke Emmitt Smith’s state rushing record on a 34-yard, go-ahead, second-quarter touchdown — he entered the game 217 yards behind Smith’s top mark.
Taylor now owns the Florida records for touchdowns scored (141) and rushing yards (8,975.)

Chaminade volleyball player Brianna O’Neil commits to Fordham August 26th, 2011
Chaminade-Madonna volleyball standout Brianna O’Neil had several choices during the college recruiting process.
But after a series of unofficial and official visits to multiple schools, the senior outside hitter felt one place stood out: Fordham.
O’Neil, a two-time first-team All-County selection, recently verbally committed to Fordham, the same school where her father played college basketball. She also received interest from Jacksonville, East Carolina, and Mississippi State.
“My father went to Fordham on a basketball scholarship and we were both thrilled when we found out they were offering me a full scholarship,” O’Neil said. “I loved the campus, the academic opportunities and being in New York City, I knew I could flourish there.”
O’Neil led the Lions last season with 320 kills and 230 digs.
